Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, officers responded to the crash in the area of Flower and First Streets. Upon arrival, they found a toppled bicycle and a black Chevrolet Camaro with its airbags deployed.
Police determined that one of the victims was either walking or riding the bicycle at the time of the accident.
The victims were transported to a hospital in critical condition. The names of the patients and their conditions at this time were not immediately provided.
The Camaro’s driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
