Two Drivers Killed in Winchester Crash on Winchester Road (Highway 79) near Scott Road

Winchester, California (January 24, 2020) – Two drivers were killed early Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Winchester, authorities said.

The fatal accident was reported just after 1:00 a.m. on Winchester Road, just north of Scott Road. Winchester Road is also known as Highway 79.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Silverado was heading southbound on Winchester Road when for an undetermined reason, the Silverado drifted over the double-yellow line and into the path of a Honda CRV that was traveling northbound. Both vehicles ultimately collided head-on.

Both drivers died at the scene. Their names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

It is still unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
