16-Year-Old Girl, 67-Year-Old Woman Hospitalized after Talmadge Pedestrian Crash at Collwood Boulevard and 54th Street
San Diego, California (March 17, 2020) – A 67-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle Monday night at a Talmadge intersection, according to a local news source.
Police said the victims were at the intersection of Collwood Boulevard and 54th Street when a Subaru Baja, driven by an 81-year-old woman, struck them shortly after 8:05 p.m. on March 16.
The teen sustained minor injuries and the older woman suffered major injuries that included a broken arm and a fractured leg. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their names and conditions at this time were not immediately disclosed.
The Subaru driver stopped at the scene and was cooperative, police said.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
