2 Teens Injured, Sixto Lopez Arrested in Fresno County DUI Crash on California and Cornelia Avenues

Fresno County, (March 2, 2020) – Two juveniles were hospitalized Sunday evening following a head-on collision at an intersection in Fresno County, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded to the area of California and Cornelia Avenues after reports of a two-car crash that happened just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 1.

Authorities said Sixto Lopez, 56, was traveling eastbound on California Avenue when his vehicle veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Chevrolet driven by Kenda Gutierrez, 44.

A 13-year-old and 17-year-old boys, who were passengers in the Chevy, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center. Gutierrez was unhurt.

Lopez sustained major non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Community Regional Medical Center. He was later arrested for DUI and booked into the Fresno County jail.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
