Wrong-Way Driver Dies, One Hospitalized after Campbell Car Accident on Highway 17 near Hamilton Avenue
Campbell, California (January 17, 2020) – A wrong-way driver was killed and one other person was hospitalized early Friday morning after a traffic accident in Campbell, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash took place at around 3:23 a.m. on Highway 17 near Hamilton Avenue.
The CHP said a Honda Accord was heading southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 17 when it crashed into a Toyota Avalon.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated the driver of the Avalon from the wreckage. The patient was then transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
The Accord driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northbound lanes of the highway near Interstate 280 were closed following the crash. One northbound lane reopened as of 4:36 a.m.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
