1 Killed, 1 Injured in Oceanside Truck Accident on Mission Avenue at Airport Road

Oceanside, California (June 18, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Wednesday morning fiery traffic collision that killed one person and left another injured in Oceanside, San Diego County.

The crash occurred at around 11:00 a.m., on June 17, at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Airport Road. 

A sedan was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when, for unknown reasons, it suddenly swerved directly into the rear of a soda delivery truck that was parked with its hazard lights activated, according to the police.

The sedan reportedly smashed into the rear of the truck and caught fire.  

First responders arrived at the scene and extricated the sedan driver and an unconscious passenger.

The two patients were taken to a hospital where the passenger was pronounced dead. The driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck was not occupied at the time of the accident, the officials said.

Intoxication was believed to have played a role in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
