Michael Thomas Killed, One other Injured in Newark Motorcycle Crash on Highway 84

Newark, California – A man who was killed in an early Sunday morning Newark motorcycle accident on Highway 84 has been identified as Michael D. Thomas, 40, of Palo Alto, by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.

Thomas was riding eastbound on Highway 84 with another person when without knowing any reasons, they were hit from behind by a BMW sedan.

On September 13, at around 2:20 am, the California Highway Patrol responded to the accident.

Thomas was killed in the accident while the other rider was rushed to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

The BMW driver did not stop at the scene but was later found a few miles from the scene, and was arrested on DUI suspicion.

However, the investigators did not immediately determine that the suspect was driving under influence.

Due to the accident, the two left lanes of the eastbound Highway 84 were closed at the Thornton Avenue off-ramp.

An investigation to find the cause of the accident is ongoing.
