Evaristo Nunez Arrested after Fatal Bakersfield Car Crash on Cottonwood Road near East Pacheco Road

Bakersfield, California (January 9, 2020) – Evaristo Perez Nunez, 32, has been arrested after a Bakersfield hit-and-run collision that happened early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 3:34 a.m. January 7, on Cottonwood Road near East Pacheco Road.

Officials said Nunez was driving a vehicle on Cottonwood Road when he pulled out in front of another vehicle and the two cars crashed. A third car was also involved in the crash.

Responding emergency crews attended to four children and two adults injured in the collision. The victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

9-year-old Emiliano Hernandez of Bakersfield died while receiving treatment.

Nunez fled the scene after the collision. He was later arrested by the officials and booked into the Kern County jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing serious injury.

An investigation is ongoing.
