Bicyclist Struck, Killed by Vehicle on Highway 32 in Chico

65-Year-Old Man Killed in Chico Bicycle Accident on Highway 32 at Ten Mile House Trail

Chico, California (May 10, 2020) – A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday night on a highway in Chico, according to a local news source.

The fatal crash took place just after 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, on Highway 32, just east of Ten Mile House Trail.

Authorities said a 65-year-old man was riding his bicycle eastbound in the eastbound lane of Highway 32 when he was hit by a 2018 Chevrolet pickup vehicle that was traveling in the same direction at approximately 55 mph.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the accident.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

“Far too many bicycle collisions are caused by the carelessness or recklessness of other motorists. Sadly, when this occurs, motorcyclists are the ones who tend to suffer the vast majority of injuries”, according to Arin Khodaverdian, Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group. Under California’s rule of comparative negligence, a victim may be able to collect compensation for injuries and other damages even if you were partly at fault for the accident.
