Authorities Investigating Fatal Irvine Bicycle Crash at Portola Parkway and State Route 261
Irvine, California (May 26, 2020) – Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to a fatal bicycle accident that occurred at an intersection in Irvine Monday morning, May 25.
A 70-year-old woman died at the scene after a gray Mercedes ML350 hit her bicycle at the intersection of Portola Parkway and State Route 261 at about 10:00 a.m.
The Mercedes driver stopped after hitting the cyclist and cooperated with the law.
Meanwhile, Portola Parkway was closed down from Forge to the 261 toll road for several hours as police and emergency crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.
Irvine police Officer Mike Bergstrom urged anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them at 949-724-7212, ext. 2046.
