59-Year-Old Maria Perez Arrested After Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Seventh Street

Los Angeles, California (May 19, 2020) – 59-year-old Maria Perez, of Bell Garden, has been arrested following an alleged hit-and-run pedestrian collision that left one person dead earlier this month in downtown Los Angeles.

As per the report, 51-year-old Byern Smith died at the scene after being struck by a 2005 Scion xB driven by Perez just about 2:00 a.m. on May 7.

Smith was walking in the 1600 block of East Seventh Street at the time of the crash.

Officials affirmed that Perez did not stop to render aid to Smith and fled the scene.

On Sunday at around 1:50 a.m., police arrested Perez in the area of Gladys Avenue and 6th Street. They booked her on felony hit-and-run two felony warrants and three misdemeanor warrants.

The fatal accident remains under investigation.
