17-Year-Old Catalina Esteves Killed, 1 Hospitalized After Moreno Valley DUI Car Crash on Gilman Springs Road

Jose Perez Arrested After Moreno Valley Fatal DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Gilman Springs Road

Moreno Valley, California (May 6, 2020) –18-year-old Jose Angel Perez was arrested following a suspected DUI hit-and-run collision that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old Calimesa girl at about 11:00 a.m. May 4.

Perez was riding a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe east on Gilman Springs Road when he collided with a second vehicle Monday morning for unknown reasons.

The Tahoe rolled over several times upon the impact, ejecting Catalina Esteves and a second unidentified passenger.

Esteves died at Riverside University Health System Medical Center at around 11:53 a.m. , the Riverside County Coroner’s Office said.

The other injured party was also taken to the hospital for further aid.

Perez, who was under the influence at the time of the collision, did not stop after the mishap.

Police arrested him on suspicion of DUI and will be booked when he recovers from minor injuries he sustained in the wreck.

The fatal accident remains under an active investigation.
