Desmond King ID’d as Man Killed in Oakland Pedestrian Accident on Bancroft Avenue

Oakland, California (March 30, 2020) – The man who died Sunday evening in an alleged DUI pedestrian accident in the Fairfax district of Oakland has been identified as Desmond King, 29, of Oakland., according to the Alameda County coroner’s office.

The fatal accident took place at about 6:51 p.m. Sunday, March 29 in the 5400 block of Bancroft Avenue.

Authorities said a 29-year-old man was driving his 2013 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on Bancroft Avenue when he slammed into a parked car on the north curb. The Malibu then struck four pedestrians who were standing on the sidewalk.

King, who was one of the pedestrians, was declared dead at the scene. Three other victims, all men aged 39, 45, and 50, were transported to a local hospital. One patient was listed in critical condition and the other two in stable condition.

The driver of the Malibu fled the scene on foot but was later arrested. Authorities determined that he was driving under the influence.

The driver was arrested and booked into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing death or injury.

The accident remains under investigation. Police traffic investigators asked anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them at 510-777-8570.

According to Arin Khodaverdian, the Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group, a separate investigation by an experienced attorney is necessary to clearly uncover the circumstances surrounding the collision. “An attorney will also help the victim to navigate all the legal processes in pursuit of fair compensation and justice. Car accident claims are rarely straightforward, and, regardless of the circumstances involved, liable insurance companies will often do everything possible to limit their out-of-pocket expenses by either devaluing or outright denying your claim. It is crucial, therefore, that you have an experienced attorney on your side,” said Arin.
