Boy Injured After Getting Hit by Truck While Riding Bicycle in Rohnert Park

11-Year-Old Boy Injured in Rohnert Park Bicycle Crash on Civic Center Drive

Rohnert Park, California (June 8, 2020) – A 11-year-old boy was injured after being struck by a truck while he was riding his bicycle in Rohnert Park Sunday night, authorities said.

The crash occurred in the 900 block of Civic Center Drive at about 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7.

According to the reports, the boy was riding his bicycle on Civic Center Drive when a truck hit him.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. His identity and condition at this time were not immediately released.

The driver of the truck, Stephen Anthony Marteo, 28, of Cotati, fled the scene but was later arrested. He was booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, DUI with injury and violation of probation.  His bail was set at $110,000.

Marteo was due in court Tuesday, according to the reports.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

“Far too many bicycle collisions are caused by the carelessness or recklessness of other motorists. Sadly, when this occurs, motorcyclists are the ones who tend to suffer the vast majority of injuries”, according to Arin Khodaverdian, Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group. Under California’s rule of comparative negligence, a victim may be able to collect compensation for injuries and other damages even if you were partly at fault for the accident.
