Woman Killed in Madera Pedestrian Accident on Road 26 ID’d as Michelle Starkand

Authorities ID’d 55-YearOld Michelle Starkand as Victim Struck and Killed by Vehicle on Road 26 in Madera

Madera, California (April 23, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol have released the name of the woman who died following a pedestrian accident along Road 26, just north of Avenue 17 in Madera at about 10:30 p.m. April 12.

55-year-old Michelle Fern Starkand died at the scene after she was struck by a northbound Kia operated by19-year-old Jose David Zaragoza while pushing a shopping cart eastbound across Road 26 Sunday night.

Zaragoza, a Madera resident, initially left the scene after hitting Starkand and went home. He then returned to the crash site and cooperated with the investigation.

The detectives are gathering more evidence to determine the cause of the accident.
