William Camp Killed in Palm Springs Bicycle Accident on N Gene Autry Trail

Authorities Identify Bicyclist Struck and Killed by Big Rig on North Gene Autry Trail near Via Escuela in Palm Springs as William Camp

Palm Springs, California (April 16, 2020) – The Riverside County Coroner’s Office has identified the bicyclist who was killed Tuesday afternoon  in a traffic accident on Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs as William Camp, 62, of Palm Springs.

The fatal crash took place at about 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, near the intersection of North Gene Autry Trail and East Via Escuela.

 Authorities said Camp was riding his bicycle on North Gene Autry Trail between East Vista Chino Drive and East Via Escuela Drive when a semi-truck struck him.

Emergency personnel responded and pronounced Camp dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck stopped at the scene and cooperated with police. Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.

“Far too many bicycle collisions are caused by the carelessness or recklessness of other motorists. Sadly, when this occurs, motorcyclists are the ones who tend to suffer the vast majority of injuries”, according to Arin Khodaverdian, Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group. Under California’s rule of comparative negligence, a victim may be able to collect compensation for injuries and other damages even if you were partly at fault for the accident.
