Rancho Dominguez Woman Killed in DUI Crash on Canal Avenue in West Long Beach

56-Yera-Old Rancho Dominguez Woman ID’d as Victim Of Fatal West Long Beach Car Accident on Canal Avenue near Ester Street

West Long Beach, California (April 13, 2020) – An alleged DUI crash claimed the life of a woman late Saturday afternoon in West Long Beach, according to authorities.

At around 4:40 p.m. Saturday, April 11, emergency personnel responded to Canal Avenue, just south of Ester Street, for a report of a traffic collision.

Authorities determined that Eric Munson, 23, of Long Beach, was driving his 2003 Nissan Altima northbound on Canal Avenue when he slammed into a parked 1995 Toyota Tercel occupied by a 56-year-old Rancho Dominguez woman. The force of the impact pushed the Tercel into the trailer of a parked semi-truck.

Paramedics responded to the scene and performed CPR on the Rancho Dominguez woman. Despite life-saving measures, the woman did not survive her injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Munson’s passenger stopped at the scene to cooperate with the police and was released, the report states.

Munson was found to be under the influence at the time of the accident. He arrested and booked into Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run.

Munson was being held on $100,000 bail.

The accident remains under investigation. Detective K. Myers asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 562-570-7355.

According to Arin Khodaverdian, the Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group, a separate investigation by an experienced attorney is necessary to clearly uncover the circumstances surrounding the collision. “An attorney will also help the victim to navigate all the legal processes in pursuit of fair compensation and justice. Car accident claims are rarely straightforward, and, regardless of the circumstances involved, liable insurance companies will often do everything possible to limit their out-of-pocket expenses by either devaluing or outright denying your claim. It is crucial, therefore, that you have an experienced attorney on your side,” said Arin.

What to Do At the Accident Scene

Nobody is ever prepared for an accident. However, knowing what to do in case you are involved in the accident is very crucial. The following steps will help you ensure your safety and the safety of others.

  1. Stay at the scene and don’t panic.
  2. Check for injuries and immediately call for an ambulance if anyone is hurt.
  3. Notify the police even if no one is injured. The police will examine the scene and document the accident. At this point, it is important to record accurate information. You can later request a police report.
  4. If the accident is minor, it is advisable to move the vehicles to the shoulder and turn on your vehicle’s hazard lights to ensure the safety of other motorists.
  5. Gather information about the other drivers involved in the accident. Also, talk to witnesses and get their information.
  6. If possible, take photos of the damage to your car and the surrounding area.
  7. Do not admit fault or discuss the accident with anyone. Do not sign any papers unless requested by the police.
  8. Do not leave the accident scene until the police have left.

After leaving the accident scene,

  1. Contact your insurance company as soon as possible.
  2. Get a copy of the accident report from the police.
  3. Get a property damage valuation.
  4. If you were injured in the accident, keep detailed notes of your injuries and track your medical treatment.
