Steven Lovett Identified as Man Killed in Santa Cruz Motorcycle Accident on Highway 1 near Soquel Drive
Santa Cruz, California (September 23, 2019) – The man who was killed Friday night in a motorcycle accident in Santa Cruz has been identified as Steven Edward Lovett, 31, of Watsonville.
The tragic wreck took place just before 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 20 on Highway 1 near Soquel Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Lovett was riding a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Highway 1 at a high rate of speed when he was struck by a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by a 35-year-old Soquel man , who was also traveling southbound on Highway 1.
After the impact, the motorcycle struck the center median of the highway.
Lovett was declared deceased at the scene.
The Soquel man was not injured.
It was immediately unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Meanwhile, the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Motorcycle riders are strongly encouraged to wear a safety helmet all the time to protect your brain in some types of crashes or if you fall off your bike and hit your head. The motorcyclist should wear protective gear and clothing that will minimize the amount of injuries in case of an accident or a skid. The riders are also advised to follow the same traffic laws as other motorists.
