Rodolfo Tabares Struck, Injured by Alleged DUI Driver at Highway 33 and Douglas Street in Fresno County

Firebaugh Police Officer Rodolfo Tabares Hospitalized after Fresno County Motorcycle Accident at Highway 33 and Douglas Street

Fresno County, California (September 17, 2019) – A police officer was struck and injured by an alleged DUI driver Sunday night in Firebaugh, northwest of Fresno, according to officials.

The accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, September 15 at Highway 33 and Douglas Street.

Authorities said Firebaugh Police Officer Rodolfo Tabares was riding his police motorcycle at the intersection when he was hit from behind by a car driven by Jose Gutierrez, 27, of Mendota.

Tabares suffered a lot of road rash and scrapes and was taken to the hospital. His current condition was not immediately available.

Gutierrez who rear-ended Tabares at a high rate of speed, about 55 to 60 mph, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The crash remains under investigation.
