Person Sustains Serious Injuries in Redwood City Pedestrian Accident on Poplar Avenue
Redwood City, California (September 18, 2019) – According to a local news report, a pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Redwood City Wednesday morning.
At around 9:47 a.m. Redwood City police officers received a report about a possible home invasion robbery in progress in the 300 block of Poplar Avenue involving four masked males suspects.
The Redwood City police officers said their officer was headed to the reported robbery from James Avenue, just a few blocks away, and was driving southbound on El Camino Real when she lost control of her vehicle on the wet roadway and hit the center median.
The vehicle careened across the center median and struck an adult male pedestrian who was had crossed El Camino Real and was standing on the median. It then continued into the opposing lanes of traffic and collided with two other vehicles that were traveling northbound on El Camino Real.
The pedestrian and was transported to a local trauma hospital with major injuries. The name and current condition at this time were not disclosed.
The officer involved in the crash, a 12-year veteran, was also transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution. The police canine riding in the patrol car did not appear injured but was examined by a veterinarian.
The drivers of the other vehicles were assessed at the scene by responding paramedics and released at the scene.
Authorities closed the roadway for one hour as they investigated the accident
An investigation into the crash is underway.
