Marcelino De Jesus-Santiago Killed in Car Accident on Highway 152 in Gilroy

Marcelino De Jesus-Santiago ID’d as Man Killed in Gilroy Crash on Highway 152 near Bloomfield Avenue

Santa Clara County, California (September 20, 2019) The man who died in a head-on crash that happened Wednesday morning in Gilroy has been identified as Marcelino De Jesus-Santiago, 27, of Merced County.

The deadly accident, which was reported at around 7:57 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, happened on State Highway 152, just east of Bloomfield Avenue and west of Lovers Lane.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Phillip Romero, 31, of Fresno, was driving a 2000 Ford westbound on Highway 152 at approximately 60 miles per hour when for an unknown reason, he allowed his vehicle to cross over the solid double yellow dividing lines and collided head-on with an eastbound 2014 Toyota driven by De Jesus-Santiago.

De Jesus-Santiago was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger, Sergio Cruz, 27, of Delhi was taken by ambulance to San Jose Regional Hospital with major injuries.

Romero was airlifted to San Jose Regional Hospital with major injuries.

Highway 152 was closed for four hours as the investigation and cleanup took place.

It’s undetermined if alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
