Jupiter Marley Hit, Killed by Amtrak Train near Fourth Street and Bancroft Way in Berkeley

Jupiter Marley ID’d as 1 of 2 Two Men Killed in Berkeley Train Accident near 4th Street and Bancroft Way

Berkeley, California (September 17, 2019) – Authorities have identified one of the two pedestrians who died Thursday night after being struck by an Amtrak train in Berkeley as Jupiter Ganymede Marley, 31.

The fatal accident took place at about 8:09 p.m. Thursday, September 12 on Union Pacific Railroad tracks near Fourth Street and Bancroft Way not far from the Berkeley Amtrak station.

Authorities said Marley and a 37-year-old man who were transients were on the tracks when they were struck by Amtrak’s San Joaquin Train enroute from Bakersfield to Oakland.

Both men died in the accident. According to the authorities, the two had been living in one of the two homeless encampments along the Interstate 80 underpass near University Avenue which was cleared by Caltrans that week.

No one on board the train was injured in the accident.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
