Bicyclist Struck, Gravely Injured by Vehicle on Eastgate Mall at Easter Way in University City

22-Year-Old Woman Seriously Injured in University City Bicycle Accident on Eastgate Mall at Easter Way

University City, California (September 6, 2019) – A bicyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle Thursday evening in University City, according to police.

The wreck occurred at around 7:40 p.m. Thursday, September 5 on Eastgate Mall at Easter Way, just east of Genesee Avenue.

Police said the bicyclist, only identified as a 22-year-old woman, was riding a mountain bike in an eastbound bike lane on Eastgate Mall when she reached the intersection and made a left turn in an attempt to cross all five lanes of the street to head northbound onto Easter Way.

The woman turned in front of cars traveling in her same direction on Eastgate Mall, and those vehicles had a green light.For an unknown reason, a Honda Pilot hit the victim.

The woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. Her name and current condition were not immediately disclosed.

The driver of the Honda, a 36-year-old woman, was not injured in the crash.

Alcohol or drugs were not suspected factors in the accident. Authorities are still investigating the crash.
