At Least 1 Killed in Oakland Park Train Accident near Dixie Highway and Northeast 34th Court Thursday morning
Oakland Park, California (September 12, 2019) – At least one person died after a car was hit by a Brightline train Thursday morning in Oakland Park, according to officials.
The fatal accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. near Dixie Highway and Northeast 34th Court.
Authorities said the car, a Maserati, was attempting to move over the tracks while the crossing arms were down near the intersection when the vehicle was struck by the Brightline train. The train then caught fire after the impact.
Firefighters along with paramedics responded to the scene and put out the fire. At least one occupant of the car was declared dead at the scene.
It was immediately unknown how many people were in the car at the time of the accident.
The conductor of the train was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The name of the deceased and the injured victims have not yet been disclosed.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
