Jeffrey Dakarai Arrested after San Bernardino Crash on D Street and 8th Street that Sent 4 to Hospital

San Bernardino, California (September 16, 2019) – Four people were injured, and a driver was arrested after a fiery DUI crash took place Saturday night in San Bernardino, a local news source reported.

A Ford van and a Lincoln Navigator collided at around 10:46 p.m. on North D Street and 8th Street.

According to San Bernardino Police, the Ford was traveling south on D Street when it collided with the Navigator that was heading east on 8th Street. The Navigator then struck a building and caught fire, which spread to the adjacent structure.

Two occupants managed to get out the burning Lincoln but sustained life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the van, a 13-year-old and an 18-year-old man, were also injured. All the victims were transported to hospitals for treatment.

Meanwhile, the driver of the van, 44-year-old Jeffrey Dakarai, of San Bernardino, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and child endangerment. He was booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Central Detention Center and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, September 17.

It remained unclear if speed was a factor in the accident and if the Lincoln had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
