35-Year-Old Woman Dies Days after Car Crash on Highway 101 in Goleta

35-Year-Old Woman Killed in Goleta Accident on Highway 101

Goleta, California (September 18, 2019) – A 35-year-old woman has died days after a traffic crash on Tuesday afternoon last week in Goleta, according to authorities.

The collision happened at around 1:13 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, on southbound Highway 101, just north of Las Varas Canyon Road.

As per the CHP officials, Garrett Staab of Tucson Arizona was driving a 2007 Ford F350 on northbound Highway 101. He then made a U-turn from the left-hand turn lane of northbound Highway onto southbound Highway 101. The Ford was partially occupying lane 1 of southbound Highway 101 and it was directly in front of a 2015 Toyota Tundra, driven by Austin Buist of San Luis Obispo California.

Mr. Buist attempted to avoid the crash by turning right. Eventually, the front of the Toyota crashed into the passenger side of the Ford. The two vehicles came to a rest at approximately 20 feet off the roadway on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 101.

Responding firefighters transported multiple parties to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, for treatment of injuries ranging from minor to severe degree.

One of the Toyota passengers identified as a 35-year-old woman of San Luis Obispo succumbed to her injuries at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The name of the victim was not immediately released awaiting notification of next of kin.

Authorities did not suspect alcohol or drugs to have played a role in the crash.

An investigation is underway.
