Two Women Hospitalized after Claremont Bus Crash on Towne Avenue at Scripps Avenue
Claremont, California (September 6, 2019) – Two drivers were injured Thursday afternoon in a traffic accident involving a special education school bus and a car in Claremont, according to a local news source.
The deadly crash happened at around 1:15 p.m. Thursday, September 5 on Towne Avenue at Scripps Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol said an 81-year-old woman was driving her Nissan Versa southbound on Towne Avenue when she turned left onto Scripps Avenue and failed to yield to a northbound school bus operated by a 79-year-old woman. Both vehicles collided.
As a result of the collision, the Visser bus veered out of control and crashed into a concrete block wall at the intersection.
The bus driver sustained a laceration to the bridge of her nose and was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital. The driver of the Versa was also transported to Pomona Valley Hospital after complaining of pain to her legs, arms and chest.
There were two children on the bus when the accident occurred. Both were not injured and were picked up by another bus and taken to their parents.
Authorities said the bus was coming from Sumner Danbury Elementary School.
The crash remains under investigation.
