1 Killed in Fiery Big Rig Crash on Highway 50 in Meyers

1 Dies, 1 Injured in Meyers Truck Accident on Highway 50 near Elks Club Drive

Meyers, California (September 8, 2019) – A person was killed and another was seriously injured in a traffic accident Saturday morning in Meyers, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday, September 7 on Highway 50 near Elks Club Drive.

The CHP said a big rig carrying an unknown amount of petroleum, was heading eastbound on Highway 50 when for an unknown reason, the big rig struck another vehicle traveling the same direction.

The force of the impact caused the big rig to roll over and petroleum to explode.

The driver of the big rig was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The other driver was taken to a local hospital with major injuries. Their current condition was not immediately known.

Highway 50 was shut down in both eastbound and westbound directions while the investigation and cleanup took place.

 An investigation into the crash is underway.
