62-Year-Old Los Angeles Man Dies in 10 Freeway Accident near Mount Vernon Avenue in Colton
Colton, California (September 5, 2019) – According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, one person was killed in a two-car accident on 10 Freeway in Colton Monday morning.
The deadly crash occurred at around 7:35 a.m. Monday, September 2 on the Interstate 10 Freeway, just west of Mount Vernon Avenue.
As per the CHP report, Jeffrey Ornelas Jr., 30, of Colton, was driving a 2013 black Jeep Wrangler Honda in the No. 4 lane at around 55 miles per hour when he crashed into the rear of a 2004 Silver Saturn Ion stopped in the No. 4 lane of the westbound Interstate 10.
The Jeep overturned in the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes after the impact.
The driver of the Saturn, a 62-year-old Los Angeles man, was transported to a local hospital where his death was pronounced. The identity of the deceased has not released pending notification of next of kin.
Ornelas was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
