Bakersfield Man Dies in Truck Crash on Highway 99 near Palm Street Overpass
Bakersfield, California (October 23, 2019) – A 29-year-old Bakersfield man has been identified as the person who died in a traffic crash that happened Tuesday night in Bakersfield, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The deadly accident occurred Tuesday, October 22 on southbound Highway 99, just north of the Palm Street overpass.
According to the CHP report, a 2010 Isuzu truck driven by Fracisco Sanchez, 65, was speeding on southbound Highway 99 when it collided with a semi that had slowed due to traffic.
Sanchez and his passenger were trapped inside their vehicle upon the impact.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated Sanchez from his vehicle. His passenger was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi, Gurpal Singh, 34, and his passenger were uninjured in the crash.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected factors in the crash. An investigation into the accident is underway.
