At Least 3 Injured in Head-On Crash on State Route 76 in Pala

At Least 3 Injured in Pala Car Accident on State Route 76 near Couser Canyon Road

Pala, California (October 21, 2019) – At least three people were injured Monday evening in a head-on collision in the unincorporated rural community of Pala, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash took place shortly before 4:00 p.m. on State Route 76 near Couser Canyon Road.

The CHP said a 38-year-old Oceanside man was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan westbound on State Route 76 when he came upon slow-moving traffic near Couser Canyon Road and drifted to his left to avoid crashing into it.

The Volkswagen then entered into an eastbound lane where it collided head-on with an oncoming Chrysler 300 driven by a 69-year- old Van Nuys man.

The Chrysler driver and his passenger, an 85-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Palomar Medical Center.

The driver of the Volkswagen was also transported to Palomar Medical Center with minor injuries.

Traffic lanes in the area were closed for approximately 45 minutes.

The crash remains under investigation.
