Ver’Shad Raggins, 7, Killed in Car Accident on 241 Toll Road in Orange County

Ver’Shad Raggins ID’d as Boy Killed in Orange County Crash on 241 Toll Road near Windy Ridge Road

Orange County, California (August 30, 2019) – The boy who was killed in a traffic collision that also left three of his family members injured Sunday afternoon, August 25, in unincorporated Orange County has been identified as 7-year-old Ver’Shad Raggins.

The crash took place around 1:30 p.m. on the 241 Toll Road near Windy Ridge Road, south of the 91 Freeway.

According to a local news source, Raggins’ family was on their way to the beach when their Kia Optima stalled in the No. 2 lane on the 241 Toll Road.

A white cargo van failed to slow down and crashed into the back of the stalled car. The car had its hazard lights on, and the driver, Vernon Sr., 54, was waving his hands out the window to get other drivers attention.

Ver’Shad and his twin, Ver’ell, were sitting in the back seat. Their 16-year-old brother, Vernon Jr. was sitting in the front passenger seat.

Ver’Shad was airlifted to Children’s Hospital of Orange County where he was pronounced dead.

Vernon Sr. and Ver’ell sustained major injuries. Vernon Jr. suffered minor injuries. All three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The van driver went to the hospital with minor injuries.
