Marilyn Araiza Killed in Long Beach Crash on Pacific Coast Highway

Marilyn Araiza Dies in Fatal DUI Car Accident on Pacific Coast Highway

Long Beach, California (August 22, 2019) – According to a local news source, one person was killed in a two-car accident that occurred at about 4:00 a.m. Sunday, August 18 on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach.

According to reports, Osvaldo Ramirez-Vazquez was driving a 1999 Lincoln Town Car eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and rotated to the left at which time it broadsided the passenger door of a 2014 Cadillac XTS. According to the preliminary investigation by authorities, Ramirez-Vazquez was allegedly intoxicated while driving.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated Marilyn Araiza, 21, of Cypress, who was trapped inside the wreckage. Araiza was then rushed to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the Cadillac, a 49-year-old Garden Grove man, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police said Ramirez-Vazquez, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, sustained minor injuries in the crash. News reports attribute a statement to the Long Beach Police as stating: “Based on both driver’s and witness statements … Ramirez-Vazquez was operating a motor vehicle at a high rate of speed, while under the influence of alcohol, when he lost control striking the Cadillac that was driving in the opposite direction,” according to a Long Beach police statement. It appears criminal charges would be impending.

This senseless act resulted in Ms. Araiza’s death and the injury of the 49-year-old Garden Grove man.
