Man Killed in Highway 9 Accident in Ben Lomond Identified

Watsonville Man William Bird Killed in Ben Lomond Car Accident on Highway 9 near Highland County Park

Ben Lomond, California (August 28, 2019) – According to a local news source, a man was killed in a traffic accident at around 6:00 a.m. Sunday, August 25 on Highway 9 near Highland County Park in Ben Lomond.

According to a California Highway Patrol report, a 2001 PT Cruiser driven by William Bird, 56, of Watsonville, was heading northbound on Highway 9 when for an undetermined reason, it veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2004 Honda Pilot operated by Caitlin Emma-Ione Hatch, 31, of Boulder Creek.

The force of the impact caused the PT Cruiser to catch fire.

Bird was transported to Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Hatch sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
