Joey McGraw Jr. and Michael Klassen Seriously Injured in Shandon Car Crash on Highway 46

Shandon, California (August 29, 2019) – CHP said two men were seriously injured in a head-on collision on Wednesday, August 28, just before 7:30 a.m. on Highway 46 near Shandon.

The crash happened near Chalome Y.

CHP said Joey McGraw Jr., 29, of San Bernardino was driving an Acura westbound on the highway when he tried to pass a semi-truck tractor, but he saw an oncoming vehicle and attempted to get back into the eastbound lane.

Due to McGraw’s unsafe speed, he was not able to maintain control of his vehicle and swerved out of control into the eastbound lane where he crashed head-on into a Toyota Sienna driven by Michael Klassen, 67, of Pebble Beach.

The impact pushed the Sienna over the south side of the highway while the Acura came to rest, blocking the eastbound lane of traffic.

McGraw and Klassen were taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo with possible fractures.

The crash remains under investigation.
