Gabriel Lopez Severely Injured in Boyle Heights Bicycle Accident on Whittier Boulevard near Calzona Street
Boyle Heights, California (August 27, 2019) – According to a local news source, a bicyclist was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident on Thursday, August 22, around 10:20 p.m. on Whittier Boulevard near Calzona Street in Boyle Heights.
As per the report, a video shows a white pickup truck traveling on the left side of Whittier Boulevard in the direction of oncoming traffic. The truck then crashes head-on into the bicycle ridden by Gabriel Lopez.
The truck left the scene after the accident.
Lopez, a father of five, was taken to the hospital with severe injuries including broken vertebrae and a blood clot. He spent three days in the hospital.
The involved vehicle was described as a white 2011-2018 Chevrolet/GMC full-size pickup truck. It has a red front bumper, lower valance air deflector, black rims and a black bed cover. It also may have a custom white rear bumper and possible aftermarket headlamps and tail lamps. It also has front-end damage.
The Los Angeles police are looking for the suspect. The city has a reward program that offers up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of a hit-and-run driver.
